Fire Advisory in effect May 29, 2025

May 29 2025

Town of Onoway is issuing a FIRE ADVISORY effective today.  Long term forecast shows limited moisture with increasing temperatures.  Reducing relative humidity, with winds and increased temperature over time will increase hazard across the County without moisture received. This ADVISORY is an indication further restriction may be forthcoming.

Sustained afternoon winds are anticipated to average 35 km/hr, drying out light grassy fuels, and heightening initial spread indexes in these fuels between 1:00 pm and 6 pm daily.  These conditions are expected to persist until further moisture is received.

No further permits for large burns will be issued effective today, permits for smaller burns with adequate control measures definitively in place maybe considered with caution, restrict burning to mornings or evenings.  This advisory will be in place until temperatures moderate and adequate moisture is received.

Campfires in acceptable pits, woodfired appliances, or small permitted open burning are STILL ALLOWED with adequate monitoring in place.

Fireworks during a FIRE ADVISORY, FIRE RESTRICTION or FIRE BAN are prohibited.

Please report any wildfire to 9-1-1 with the exact location to assist Fire Personnel in locating and extinguishing these fires. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
